Founded in 1902 along the shores of Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach, California, the Pike Amusement Park featured rides, gift shops, food stands, and a large wooden roller coaster built on pilings stretching out over the ocean waves. When the park eventually closed and the land was redeveloped into a mall, the roller coaster’s theme was thoughtfully reimagined in the design of a bridge spanning Shoreline Drive.
