Wayfarers Chapel—often called “The Glass Church”—sat high on a bluff in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Designed by Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright, and completed in 1951, the chapel is a stunning example of organic architecture. With its glass walls and roof, it harmonizes seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
This photo captures a detail of the steeple, a later addition to the original design.
Sadly, the chapel has been permanently closed due to ongoing landslides and unstable ground. Fortunately, thanks to its architectural significance and listing on the National Register of Historic Places, it is being carefully dismantled and stored piece by piece, with hopes of reassembling it at a new, more stable location in the future.
