This was a vision I had before we even set foot in Italy—an attempt to capture both the timeless beauty of Venice and the fragility of the ecological challenges it faces.
The result became one of the few composite images I’ve created. I blended a distressed Italian Renaissance wall, where the peeling paint and plaster evoke the texture of a topographic map, with an image of Venice viewed from a ferry on a trip to Murano.
The combination, in the end, speaks to both the splendor and the vulnerability of this remarkable city.
